Gridiron Gawdz ’09

And I’m the Commish, er Der Kommissar

I’ve been playing in a league on Yahoo for nine seasons. I’ve been league champion once and runner up once. It’s my turn to be the commissioner and this year I propsed the first major change in the way we do things. I proposed a keeper league, keeping players from last year’s teams. After much discussion, we decided to keep 2 offensive and 2 defensive players, no exceptions. That last bit cost us one returning manager, apparently because he didn’t want to keep defensive players, but I suspect it was a ruse. I think he had other reasons and just wanted to save face so he picked a fight and quit. No matter, he was easily replaced. Last year we had 8 teams. This year we had 6 returning managers. The returning teams kept players, the expansion teams got to draft from the free agent pool. We drafted 20 man rosters and have starters as follows: QB, RB, WR, WR, TE, R/W/T, K, DB, DB, DL, DL, D, D.

On this page I’ll be discussing the draft and give a weekly report on my team’s progress, or lack thereof.

League Champions

IT’S OFFICIAL – The Ewesless Jeffies are the 2009 Gridiron Gawdz fantasy football champions. The Jeffies defeated Sings Revolution 137.45 – 127.67 in the championship game. Nice game JJ, I really thought you were gonna win. You would have, too, if it weren’t for Aaron Schobel going completely nuts. Fortunately for me, my guys seemed [...]

Week 16 – The Gridiron Gawdz Championship Game

Odd, the way things work out. If I had gotten my wish and played Jeffy in the championship, he would be the league champion, not me. Jeffy’s team outscored mine this week, but he wasn’t playing against me. Instead he was playing in the consolation game for 3rd place. I was playing against JJ and [...]

Week 15

Playoffs, week 1. 3 TDs for San Diego = 6 TDs for me. Add another from Brandon Marshall and there wasn’t no one gonna take out the Olde Man. I survived a 1 point performance from Ryan Longwell and another poor showing from half my defense to advance to this week’s Gridiron Gawdz Championship Game. [...]

Week 13 & 14

Ok, it looks like I posted my comments from week 13 on the league message board, but forgot to re-write them for the blog. So rather than bore myself by writing 2 posts, I’ll briefly cover both weeks in one. Week 13 saw me maintain my family supremacy by defeating my nephew-in-law for the 2nd [...]

Week 12

Close. Very close. Damn near lost to another last place team. But a dubya is a dubya and I’ll take it on a Darren Sharper 4th quarter interception on Monday night. I win by less than a point, but I don’t think they counted his return yards so that should add another point or so. [...]

Weak 11

Yeah, very weak. My boys got off to a decent start in the early games. Not good, but acceptable. With the core of my team still to play, I was just a few points behind. Thngs were looking good. Then, somehow in a win over Denver, Rivers, Jackson and Gates managed to produce 28.28 points [...]

Week 10

I almost forgot to update the blog this week. I guess it’s just getting too routine to log in and start bragging. Four straight dubyas and a 7-3 record is good enough for 2nd place and I’m the league’s highest scoring team, barely edging out Jeffy by about 9. The details are old news, but [...]

Week 9

BooYeah!!! Does it get any sweeter? They needed to play tonight to make it official, but I had this thing won yesterday. It was a 45+ point blowout. For the second week in a row I conquered the #1 team in the league. That’s 5 Ws in the last 6 weeks and an overall record [...]

Week 8

Steamrolled right over the league’s first place team. So what is my reward? I get to play the league’s new first place team this week. Ok, I’m late with this week’s entry, but I don’t mind getting a chance to brag late in the week. Kicked Jeffy’s ewesless butt last week. I’ll give him credit, [...]

Week 7

I’m back on the right track after a thrilling victory over the elf. My team got off to a great start, but tailed off after the first half of Sunday’s early games. But it was good enough for a 24 point lead heading into Monday night. Marty had Clinton Portis and I was done. All [...]

Weak 6

My team was totally Ewesless this week. Yeah, I had to rename them. Rush was banned from the NFL, so having a team named after him in protest of his attempt to buy the Rams was no longer relevant. I still had to name them after the Rams, though, just to get Jeffy’s goat (pun [...]

Week 5

WEEK 5, but now the term weak only refers to the opposition. Another week, another Dubya for the Dittoheads. Yeah, I named my team in honor of Rush Limbaugh trying to buy the Rams. It’s turning into an awesome machine. I’ve earned the league’s highest score for 3 of the last 4 weeks and am [...]

Week 4

Last week I said that I didn’t have a prayer, except to pray that Eric2’s team would be injured often and early. That prayer wasn’t answered and as it turns out, I didn’t need a prayer. For the second time this season, I was guaranteed victory. I had the highest scoring team in the league. [...]

Weak 3

Weak 3, ok, it wasn’t totally weak, but it was still a loss. I was fifth in the league in scoring. That’s the top half, so I should have won. But I lost. I was paired against the second highest scoring team in the league. That leaves me tied with four other teams at 1-2, [...]

Week 2

WEEK 2 was far better than week 1. I out-pointed everyone to get my first Win and bring my record even at 1-1. Over 400 yards passing from Phillip Rivers. Andre Johnson‘s 10 catches and Ted Ginn‘s 11 were awesome. Ryan Longwell netted another 10 points as my kicker and I won 153.91 to 115.98. [...]

Week 1 or should I say weak one.

WEEK 1 or should I say weak one. That pretty much describes my team’s performance. It ain’t over. I still have Rivers and Gates tomorrow night, but it’s over. My opponent has a couple guys going too, and about a 50 point lead. I’ve never had a team look so pathetic. Ryan Longwell is my [...]

The Draft

The draft was completed last week and it wasn’t one of my better efforts. I took little time to research players and that cost me. Still I think my team could be ok. I’ve got question marks in some key positions, but I’ve got players capable of erasing those question marks, but will they? My [...]
